Haha..setelah sekian lama blog ni dibiarkan sepi, hari terasa ingin kembali menulis di sini...

Aniq?Aniq sekarang dah boleh berdiri sendiri...tapi belum lagi berjalan, insya'Allah, dengan harapan tinggi sedikit masa lagi Aniq pasti boleh berjalan sendiri..Owh, alhamdulillah, aku baru jer selamat melahirkan anak kedua, Annur Raudhah pada 26 Disember 2010 lalu.. Dan kini aku dah ade sepasang cahaya mata yang sentiasa disisi untuk menjadi pendorong pada mommy and daddy mereka. :)

Cerita tentang Aniq pasti takkan pernah habis, apa lagi kehadiran Annur pasti akan menambahkan lagi cerita2 untuk aku kongsikan di sini..Sewaktu aku bercuti pantang ni, ade la sedara yang datang melawat dan aku masih ingat cerita dia pada aku.. tentang anak istimewa..Yup, kakak tu mengajar di sekolah kanak2 istimewa dan ceritanya ingin sekali aku kongsikan kat sini..

Menurut kakak ni, ada salah seorang ibu antara puluhan pelajarnya itu berkongsi kisah istimewa anaknya. Ibu tersebut mempunyai 4 orang anak dan salah seorang dari anaknya dilahirkan istimewa. Yep, siapa yang menginginkan anak istimewa tapi di sebalik setiap ketentuan Allah itu, aku percaya tanpa ada ragu, pasti ada hikmah di sebalik ciptaanNya. Tapi itu mungkin aku, tidak pada ibu itu yang terpaksa mengharungi kesedihan apabila suaminya tidak dapat menerima hakikat yang anak mereka itu istimewa apalagi menerima anak tersebut..Sungguh mengharukan apalagi segala urusan persekolahan, urusan perbelanjaan anak istimewa tersebut di tanggung ibu itu seorang diri. Suami wanita itu tak pernah cuba untuk mendekati apalagi membawa anak itu keluar bersama dan hanya meninggalkan dia bersama pembantu rumah. Suaminya juga selalu mengatakan dia malu membawa anak istimewa itu bersama kerana aku juga faham pada kejadian istimewa Allah ini pasti menarik pandangan mata manusia untuk melihat. Ibu tersebut hanya bercerita dengan linangan air mata. Kini anak itu sudah berusia 10 tahun dan suami wanita tersebut masih begitu. Apa yang aku mampu buat, hanya mendoakan semoga wanita tersebut tabah mengharungi dugaan ini dan pasti ada sinar bahagia dan sesungguhnya Allah bersama orang2 yang sabar. Insya'Allah.

Berbalik kepada kisah hidup kami, mungkin Aniq dilahirkan istimewa. Aku juga tidak pernah menyangkal pandangan mata manusia melihat Aniq di saat kami keluar bersama.Malu?Kenapa harus malu?Itu pastinya ketentuan dan kurniaan Allah pada kami, dan dialah yang akan memberi inspirasi kepada kami. Kami akui, kadang2 kedengaran suara kanak2 bertanya, kenapa kepala dia besar? Kami hanya tersenyum lantas bertanya kembali, yeke? Mungkin pada kanak2 mereka masih belum mengerti apa dan kenapa untuk itu tidak sedikit pun kami berkecil hati. :) Itulah antara fasa atau proses yang harus kami lalui sebelum ia dialami sendiri oleh Aniq nanti. Aku cuma berdoa semoga Aniq kuat menghadapi situasi2 tersebut. Yang pasti, untuk berasa malu untuk membawa anak istimewa bersama adalah perasaan yang paling tidak ada dalam hati kami. Cuma, apa yang mungkin kami rasa, bagaimana Aniq menghadapi situasi tersebut suatu hari nanti.. Itu yang lebih kami risaukan. Semoga Allah mempermudahkan jalan hidup Aniq dan dikurniakan kejayaan yang hakiki..

Things happen for reasons.

Well, i know, i know. it has been loonngggg time i didnt update this blog and i just miss to do it over again. It's not that we do not have nice story to share or our live being so boring, but yes, i just do not have so much time to update things here. I miss to update, i miss to story, i miss to meet you, our fellow friends who being so nice, who give us strength from time to time and be with us whenever we needed.

Now, Aniq is almost a year. Time flying so fast and I just couldnt believe that our son gonna blow his first birthday candle in less than a month. Wow!I am so excited and thinking of having a birthday party for him. Should i? Well, i should plan it well then I could tell how the things goes here.

Actually, I am not in a mood today, and just want to express my feelings here. I do not know what is it, but i just not feeling good. Maybe so many things happened, and sometime, I feel so down. Owh, I just pray, everythings will turn out well and everyone is happy.

I got to go and until we meet again!!Sure, i will update you the pictures of our holiday trip to Langkawi! :)

This is the first appointment of fisio for Aniq. Well, now he is 5 months old but still cannot stand his head by himself. His neck still soft and it is quite difficult when a lot of relatives and friends want to carry him. They expect he just like other normal babies, but when I said his neck is still soft, they just confused, why at 5 months old, his neck still soft?Then they keep on asking why..Its quite tough to explain because they do not know the head and tail of the story. End up, I need to explain one by one. OMG, how can I give them a brief answer for this?

Eid ul-Fitr in another 2 days!!

Yeay!!!After almost a month we have been fasting, now the day is coming. Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated in 2 more days. Everything done including Aniq's things and home decoration too. :) This year, first day of Eid ul-Fitr we will be at Kuala Lumpur, at my hubby's side and that night we will heading back to Terengganu! I just can't wait to taste all the foods at my very hometown, Terengganu. ;)

Well, this year, would be different. For 25 years, on the first day of Eid, I will be at my hometown, celebrated with my very own family. But yet, this year we will celebrate at Kuala Lumpur on the first day of Eid and I just can't imagine how the feeling will be. It is a new experience for me and it will be more interesting with Aniq together with us! Yea, last year he still in my tummy.. ;)

So, taking this opportunity, I would like to wish all of you who reading and following our blog, 'Salam Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin' (Happy Eid ul-Fitr and sorry for things that hurt if any).

This article explain some ideas and facts that is important for us to know. What to call a person with achondroplasia, how will they live, will their intelligence be normal like others and so on. There’s been a lot of discussion over the years about the proper way to refer to a child with dwarfism. Many people who have the condition prefer the term “little person” or “person of short stature.” For some, “dwarf” is acceptable. For most, “midget” definitely is not. But here’s an idea everyone can agree on: Why not simply call a person with dwarfism by his or her name?
Being of short stature is only one of the characteristics that make a little person who he or she is. If you’re the parent or loved one of a little person, you know this to be true. But here are some facts that other people may not realize about dwarfism and those who have it.

Dwarfism:
* is a condition characterized by short stature. Technically, that means an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches or under, according to the advocacy group Little People of America (LPA).* can be caused by any one of more than 200 conditions, most of which are genetic. The most common type, accounting for 70% of all cases of short stature, is called achondroplasia.* can and most often does occur in families where both parents are of average height. In fact, 85% of children with achondroplasia are born to average-size parents.

Dwarfism isn’t:
* an intellectual disability. A person who has dwarfism is typically of normal intelligence.* a disease that requires a “cure.” Most people with the condition can live long, fulfilling lives.* a reason to assume someone is incapable. Little people go to school, go to work, marry, and raise children, just like their average-size peers.

What Causes Short Stature?
More than 200 conditions are known to cause short stature in a child. Most are caused by a spontaneous genetic mutation in the egg or sperm cells prior to conception. Other conditions are caused by genes inherited from one or both parents. In either of these cases, two average-size parents can have a child with short stature (though this is far more likely to occur with a spontaneous mutation). Similarly, depending on the type of condition causing the short stature, it is possible for little people to have an average-size child.

What prompts a gene to mutate is not yet clearly understood. The change is seemingly random and unpreventable, and can occur in any pregnancy. Generally, when average-size parents have a child with short stature due to a spontaneous mutation, it is rare to have a second child who is also of short stature. However, if parents have some form of dwarfism themselves, the odds are much greater that their children will have it as well. A genetic counselor can help determine the likelihood of passing on the condition in these cases.

Dwarfism has other causes, including metabolic or hormonal disorders in infancy or childhood. Chromosomal abnormalities, pituitary gland disorders (which influence growth and metabolism), absorptive problems (when the body can’t absorb nutrients adequately), and kidney disease can all lead to short stature if a child fails to grow at a normal rate.

Types of Short Stature
Most types of dwarfism are known as skeletal dysplasias, which are conditions of abnormal bone growth. They’re divided into two types: short-trunk and short-limb dysplasias. People with short-trunk dysplasia have a shortened trunk with longer limbs, whereas those with short-limb dysplasia have an average-sized trunk but small arms and legs.

By far, the most common skeletal dysplasia is achondroplasia, a short-limb dysplasia that occurs in about 1 of every 26,000 to 40,000 babies of all races and ethnicities. It can be caused by a spontaneous mutation in one gene or a child can inherit the gene from a parent who has achondroplasia. People with achondroplasia have a relatively long trunk and shortened upper parts of their arms and legs. They may share other features as well, such as a large head with a prominent forehead, a flattened bridge of the nose, shortened hands and fingers, and reduced muscle tone. The average adult height for someone with achondroplasia is about 4 feet.

Diastrophic dysplasia is another, less common form of short-limb dwarfism. It occurs in about 1 in 100,000 births, and is also sometimes characterized by cleft palate, clubfeet, and ears with a cauliflower appearance. People who have it tend to have shortened forearms and calves (this is known as mesomelic shortening).

Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasias (SED) refers to a group of short-trunk skeletal conditions that affect about 1 in 95,000 babies. Along with achondroplasia and diastrophic dysplasia, it is one of the most common forms of dwarfism. In some forms, a lack of growth in the trunk area may not become apparent until the child is between 5 and 10 years old; other forms are apparent at birth. Often, kids with this disorder also have clubfeet, cleft palate, and a barrel-chested appearance.

In general, dwarfism caused by skeletal dysplasias results in what is known as disproportionate short stature — meaning the limbs are short in comparison with the rest of the body. Metabolic or hormonal disorders typically cause proportionate dwarfism, meaning a person’s arms, legs, and trunk are all shortened but remain in proportion to overall body size.

Diagnosis
Some types of dwarfism can be identified through prenatal testing if a doctor suspects a particular condition and tests for it. But most cases are not identified until after the child is born. In those instances, the doctor makes a diagnosis based on the child’s appearance, failure to grow, and X-rays of the bones. Depending on the type of dwarfism the child has, diagnosis often can be made almost immediately after birth.

Once a diagnosis is made, there is no “treatment” for most of the conditions that lead to short stature. Hormonal or metabolic problems may be treated with hormone injections or special diets to spark a child’s growth, but skeletal dysplasias cannot be “cured.” People with these types of dwarfism can, however, get medical care for some of the health complications that are associated with short stature. Problems associated with the different forms of dwarfism involve other body systems — such as vision or hearing — and require careful monitoring.

Possible Complications and Treatments
Short stature is the one quality all people with dwarfism have in common. After that, each of the many conditions that cause dwarfism has its own set of characteristics and possible complications. Fortunately, many of these complications are treatable, so that people of short stature can lead healthy, active lives.

For example, some babies with achondroplasia may experience hydrocephalus (excess fluid around the brain). They may also have a greater risk of developing apnea — a temporary stop in breathing during sleep — because of abnormally small or misshapen airways or, more likely, because of airway obstruction by the adenoids or the tonsils. Occasionally, a part of the brain or spinal cord is compressed. With close monitoring by doctors, however, these potentially serious problems can be detected early and surgically corrected.

As a child with dwarfism grows, other issues may also become apparent, including:
* delayed development of some motor skills, such as sitting up and walking* a greater susceptibility to ear infections and hearing loss* breathing problems caused by small chests* weight problems* curvature of the spine (scoliosis)* bowed legs* trouble with joint flexibility and early arthritis* lower back pain or leg numbness* crowding of teeth in the jaw
Proper medical care can alleviate many of these problems. For example, surgery can often bring relief from the pain of joints that wear out under the stress of bearing weight differently with limited flexibility. Surgery also can be used to improve some of the leg, hip, and spine problems people with short stature sometimes face.

Nonsurgical options may help, too — for instance, excessive weight can worsen many orthopedic problems, so a nutritionist might help develop a healthy plan for shedding extra pounds. And doctors or physical therapists can recommend ways to increase physical activity without putting extra stress on the bones and joints.

Helping Your Child
Although types of dwarfism, and their severity and complications, vary from person to person, in general a child’s life span is not affected by the dwarfism. Though the Americans with Disabilities Act protects the rights of people with dwarfism, many members of the short-statured community don’t feel that they have a disability.
You can help your child with dwarfism lead the best life possible by building his or her sense of independence and self-esteem right from the start. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
* Treat your child according to his or her age, not size. If you expect a 6-year-old to clean up his or her room, don’t make an exception simply because your child is small.* Adapt to your child’s limitations. Something as simple as a light switch extender can give a short-statured child a sense of independence around the house.* Present your child’s condition — both to your child and to others — as a difference rather than a hindrance. Your attitude and expectations can have a significant influence on your child’s self-esteem.* Learn to deal with people’s reactions, whether it’s simple curiosity or outright ignorance, without anger. Address questions or comments as directly as possible, then take a moment to point out something special about your child. If your child is with you, this approach shows that you notice all the other qualities that make him or her unique. It will also help prepare your child for dealing with these situations when you’re not there.* If your child is teased at school, don’t overlook it. Talk to teachers and administrators to make sure your child is getting the support he or she needs.* Encourage your child to find a hobby or activity to enjoy. If sports aren’t going to be your child’s forte, then maybe music, art, computers, writing, or photography will be.* Finally, get involved with support associations like the Little People of America. Getting to know other people with dwarfism — both as peers and mentors — can show your child just how much he or she can achieve.

H1N1 hit Malaysia badly

Well,well,well......As we all know H1N1 issue is not new but the virus is still new to the world. Until now there is no way to prevent it from happen. As a mommy, I do worry about this especially when my baby's age is below 5 years old. When I go out, I can see people wearing mask going everywhere. What should we do? I just pray this virus go away asap.

I went to company training for three days at Malacca last weekend and as report in news, all hospitals and clinics in Malacca was closed because of too many patients infected with flu inside. It was so bad.. I bring Aniq to that training, but he just stay in the hotel's room at all time under his daddy supervision.

Now, we are at home. Hopefully there's no one in our family members got fever within these 7 days.

Dear God, save us from this virus and pls quickly let them go away!Amin...

Having a nice day at One Utama

Almost every weekend Faizal on duty at work, so this lovely weekend we take this opportunity
to spend time together and went out for shopping! Yes, shopping for Aniq! Well, Raya is almost here, so, we prepare all Aniq's new clothes.

Since now every body got crazy with the Mega Sale, we just took this opportunity to also enjoy the 'craziness'. :)

While we search for his clothes, I am a bit confuse to find his size. Raya is about another 2 months time and supposedly by Raya Aniq is already 4 months +. I don't think Aniq can fit that size if I bought him a 3-6 months size. End up we just take 0-3 months. Hope he can fit it by that big event! Our first event celebrating together because last year he is still in my tummy. ;)

Well, when we first reached OU, Aniq was crying and do not want anyone to hold him, but when we put him in his stroller, he was fine. When we bring him here and there, he seems so happy. ;) Until he fall asleep in his stroller on his own (with one condition; cannot stop push the stroller until he sleep :) ).

By the way, we enjoy that great weekend, spending time together especially when we can bring Aniq together! :) Yea, most of time, we just went out together because Aniq will cry when we bring him out. I think he prefer to stay at home as he can sleep well!

Oh ya! I just forgot to share, while I do shopping and Faizal taking care of Aniq in front of the store, Faizal heard someone whispered to his wife, 'don't this baby looks too small?' Well, that is the first time we heard someone comment about Aniq. More to come, we know. So, we have to start to learn how to adapt with that. Most of all, have to teach Aniq not to be offended with such thing. Hopefully, he did well. Most important thing, we always proud with our baby, Aniq!

Aniq's New Look!

It was quite long time didnt update here. Sorry readers if I make you waiting so long.. Well, last 2 weeks Faizal decide to cut Aniq's hair short, actually it is not short. Its bold. One thing I amazed about this cute little baby is he didnt cry even though it takes quite some time to bold his hair.

Lets view his cute pictures. We start when he was sleeping, in the middle he wake up but finally he once again fall asleep. Really tired I guess.. :)

Phew...what a hectic week.Meeting, training, pending things and not to forget our lovely son Aniq..He now can smile and laughing with a long voice..It really make us laugh every single minutes..Haha...

Actually, I do enjoy reading others's blogs, well you may see the blog that we are following, but yet when it comes to share our story, I was blur. A lot of things I wanna write here, but sometime I really do not know where to start. It doesnt sound interesting anyway..Or maybe I am not a good writer or even a storyteller...hahaha...

You know, when Im browsing internet, searching and reading those blogs, who did shared about the same experience like us, I just realize that we are not the only parents who has this 'special' baby. But then, I dont see any in our community yet, especially Malaysia. Is good to see parents with this LP baby and at least we could exchange our experience. Im envy with those POLP community in US who did gathering, sharing and meeting each other for the update. They really supporting each other, but here.. Well, just like we are alone.. :(

During Aniq's appointment last month, the nurse shared with us about one family who has twin babies and one of the baby was diagnosed with Achondroplasia. But, the story just end there and I dont even know who are they. Maybe I need to search them so that this community will start with us..Nice ha? Or maybe I need to serch this community and join them..

How I wish that will be come true...At least Aniq will has friends who have about the same height with him..Is not that he cannot make a friend with others, but at least he could learn other stories that will inspire and motivate him.~

Appointment Calling!

Aniq is 'sitting' for the test.

As I told you earlier, there are a lot of appointments set for my baby Aniq and he will have at least one appointment every month.

26 May 2009, he is attending his first hearing test. The doc said those tests are required to know whether Aniq has any other abnormality. Aniq will need to sleep first before the test being done. So, the nurse give him something (crystal clear liquid) and ask him to finish it. It is a lot; pity Aniq. He cried when I did put the liquid into his mouth and scream like crazy. Well, I don't have any other choices. Really poor baby.

After about half an hour, Aniq fall asleep. The test takes about 30 minutes to finish. The Doc said the result is good and everything is normal with his hearing. Thank God. However, he will still be under monitoring. Hopefully everything would be okay.

A.N.I.Q R.A.Z.I.N

There must be a story behind each name. Just to share the meaning of Aniq Razin and why we choose this name.

Actually, I already think of this name few years back. Even that time I am still not yet married. When my sister was expecting, she didn't know whether the baby is girl or boy and ask me to find few names for her baby. I choose 2 names, one for baby girl and one for baby boy. When the baby is born, it is she, so, the girl name being choosen. Even though my sister's baby is now 6 years old, the baby boy's name still there and not being taken by anyone. When I was expecting, I told my hubby, Faizal about that name and he really love the name because of the meaning. Even we search so many names, still for us Aniq Razin is the best.

In Arabic, Aniq means elegant and Razin means someone who has kind hearted. That is what we wish our son would be. Someone who is always elegant to us and kind hearted to everyone so he will be loved the way he is.

What is Achondroplasia?

When the doctor called me through the phone and inform that our baby was diagnosed with Achondroplasia, I don't even know what it is all about. Asking the doc to spell the word, I quickly type in google to find out the thing.

Wikipedia define the word as a type of autosomal dominant genetic disorder that is a common cause of dwarfism. Achondroplastic dwarfs have short stature, with an average adult height of 131 cm (4 feet, 3-1/2 inches) for males and 123 cm (4 feet, 1/2 inches) for females.
The prevalence is approximately 1 in 25,000.

I put down the phone and immediately called my sister as she is also a doctor. When I mention the word, she then explain that achondroplasia baby will grow up but not that tall. In other word, my baby will grow up as a dwarf. But yet she mention to wait until the baby come out and see how was it. She advicesd that we have to be emotionally prepared on any consequences that might happen.

Deep inside my heart, I was worried, hoping what the doc said was wrong and hope our baby will be just fine. We do pray hoping for miracle to happen and our baby come out just normal like others.

Upon that discovery, I told the story to my peers at office and most of them wished everything would be fine. One of my peer said, we do not know the future of our baby, maybe he could be someone that nobody could be and bring luck to our family. Yes, who knows and I only wish the best for our baby.

Yes, it is not that easy to accept what the doc was said. We still keep on pray..pray..pray.. and hoping the miracle will happen until one day I ask one Ustaz to say a pray for our baby and he replied, 'God created every single things for reason. No worry with what God give us and believe there must be something special in it.'

That special words inspire me a lot, and we believe our baby is a special gift from God and we are the special parents to receive that gift.

Finally, I already created and have my own blog. Taking quite sometime to have one. Yeah, I know, it is quite difficult to spend time writing here as I am a working mommy and when Im back home, most of my time spent is for my little baby, Aniq.

To begin our story, as you may read on the right hand side of this blog, how it was started. Knowing about our 'little' baby's measurement is not right during pregnancy is the most critical part to our family especially me. And about 1 week before delivery, the Doc tell us that our baby was diagnosed with Achondroplasia. I do not know how to describe my feelings that time. It is all mixed, nervous, worried, scared, surprised, confused, all in one. Yes, I am really worried and not even 1 day I can't sleep well until the day I give birth.

First impression, Aniq is just like other babies, screaming and crying when he come out to this world, has complete fingers, legs and hands, and looking at his face just enough to say that we are lucky parent to have such a cute baby like him.

However, few minutes later, the Doc come to see him closely, and slowly the Doc come whispered to me and said 'His hands and legs a bit short, we will refer to Paedetrician to review your baby'. Well, all I can do is just pray that the Doc was wrong.

If other babies can discharge from hospital after one day stay, not for Aniq. As early as one day old, he already has several appointments setted for him. And as early as 2 days old, the Doc already do Xray to see the shortness of his limb. Seeing other newborn babies aged Aniq going back home after one day stay, my heart feel so touched. Why not Aniq? He only can go back home after 4 days and not to forget together with all his appointments.

Well, Aniq now already 10 weeks old and all I can say about him is, he such a cute happy baby and miss of one day talking to him make my life feel incomplete. I will keep writing here to share our experience as we also enjoy reading others' story.
